This summer, the University of Barcelona, the Salut Empordà Foundation, and Club Nàutic l’Escala are joining forces in a pioneering initiative that connects health, science, and the sea. It is a pilot project aimed at analyzing the benefits of nautical activities on people’s health and well-being.
The initiative is part of the Salut Blava project, led by the Individual Differences Lab research group of Dr. David Gallardo-Pujol and the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Barcelona. The project promotes the use of the sea and maritime activities as a therapeutic method. This innovative approach integrates the marine environment into physical and emotional recovery processes and opens new paths to health from a transdisciplinary perspective.
With the support of the University of Barcelona and the Girona Provincial Council (Dipsalut), dinghy sailing sessions are being held at Club Nàutic l’Escala during June and July. A group of eight people referred by the L’Escala Primary Care Centre (ABS), managed by the Salut Empordà Foundation, is participating.
The results of this pilot will be released at the end of October. If positive, the activity could be incorporated into the recovery protocols of ABS L’Escala patients, thus consolidating the sea as an ally for health.
