With just a few months to go before the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup starts in Barcelona, the legendary Cup that gives its name to the competition will begin a tour in the Club and L’Escala to raise awareness of the event and inspire a new generation of sailors in different parts of the Catalan coast. The visit of the Trophy Tour America’s Cup to L’Escala, on the 25th of June, will be an opportunity to see the trophy up close, but also to experience a day full of proposals designed to enjoy the sea and the legendary regatta, discovering some of its key aspects.
The America’s Cup is one of the oldest and most important competitions in the world. According to some sources, it is the third sporting event with the greatest economic impact for the country that hosts it and offers as a prize the oldest trophy in international sport. We have to go back to 1851 to discover the first winner, the schooner America of the New York Yacht Club, which won the valuable silver ewer after winning a race organised by the British Royal Yacht Squadron to sail around the Isle of Wight.
The organisers of the 37th edition of the America’s Cup, America’s Cup Event Barcelona, the L’Escala Town Council and the Club are the organisers of this day, which will begin with a morning of nautical activities at the Club’s Sailing School. From 9:30am to 2pm, the America’s Cup will be integrated into the content of the Club Nàutic L’Escala’s campuses, courses and accessible sailing activities. Also, the 2024 Costa Brava Spring Cup, the Optimist clinic organised by Blackpatt and the Club Vela la Ballena Alegre with the collaboration of the Club between 24th and 28th June. After the activity on the water, the participants will have their photo taken with the historic trophy.
In the afternoon, from 17 to 20 h, the main event of the day will take place at the Club’s waiting dock. The event will serve to present the America’s Cup to the public, giving details of the most important dates and how to follow the competition. It will also be an opportunity to welcome the Cup, with the possibility for those attending to have their photo taken with it.
The space will also offer an information village made up of four stations designed to offer an immersive tour of different aspects of the America’s Cup, such as its history, the boats and how the crews work. During their stop in L’Escala, visitors to the Trophy Tour America’s Cup space will also be able to enjoy a gastronomic tasting of anchovies from L’Escala and cava.
