With the start of the preliminary regatta, August 22-25, one of the most eagerly awaited global sporting events of the year, the America’s Cup, kicks off.

The 37th edition of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup will be held close to home, in Barcelona. In fact, the race area will be located in front of the beach between the Port Vell and the Port Olímpic. It is, therefore, a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the most important and oldest competitions in the world like never before.

The America’s Cup is the final competition between the champion of the previous edition of the race (Defender) and the winner of the Challenger Selection Series. The prize is the oldest trophy in international sport, the valuable silver cup that visited us on June 25th, as well as the right to organise the next edition of the regatta. This includes aspects such as the choice of the venue, the dates, the rules and the design of the boats.

Who are the teams taking part?

Emirates Team New Zealand is the current America’s Cup champion. It is therefore the Defender and also the organiser of the event.

On this occasion it will have five challengers defending the following countries:

    • Great Britain – Ineos Britannia
    • United States – NYYC American Magic
    • France – Orient Express Racing Team
    • Switzerland – Alinghi Red Bull Racing
    • Italy – Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli

    • 20 to 25 August: Preliminary regatta in Barcelona. Non-scoring
    • The Challenger Selection Series will confront all the teams against each other to decide which team will race the Defender:
      • 29 August to 11 September: Louis Vuitton Cup – Round Robin
      • 14 to 23 September: Louis Vuitton Cup – Semi Finals
      • 26 September to 7 October: Louis Vuitton Cup – Final
    • 12 to 26 October: Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match-Race Final

In addition, the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup includes the following events:

    • Unicredit Youth America’s Cup – September 10 to 26: It will bring 12 teams of young sailors against each other with the goal of nurturing the next generation of sailing talent. Among them is the Sail BCN Youth Team from RCN Barcelona.
    • Puig Women’s America’s Cup – 26 September to 13 October: This regatta will decide which is the best among 12 women’s teams, highlighting the visibility of women in a high-level sailing competition. Sail BCN Women’s Team is one of the contenders.
    • America’s Cup E-Series – 31 July to 28 September. This is the virtual version of the regatta. It will be played through the AC Sailing simulator. Entry is free and open to all players on the platform.

    • Located near the Port Olímpic.
    • With views of the regatta area and the youth and women’s team bases.
    • It has an exclusive viewpoint and the possibility of watching the live broadcast with commentary.
    • Gourmet gastronomy.
    • Possibility of hosting private events.

Viewpoint areas. Various options. Free access

    • Plaza de la Rosa dels Vents – views of the teams as they enter and leave the port before and after racing.
    • Sant Miquel, Barceloneta and Somorrostro beaches.

Team bases – Located around the Port Vell. Restricted access

    • It is possible to get close to the area and see all the action as the teams leave and return to their moorings.

On the water – with your own or rented boat

    • Areas for boats will be set up around the perimeter of the race area.
    • This option is only recommended for boats of 5m or more in length.
    • Anchoring is not allowed at any time, so it is necessary to have a motor.
    • It is necessary to register the boat in the On-water information newsletter.
