L’Escala Hosts the 2026 Moth Class European Championship

  • 5/February/2026
  • Category: Regattas

From 7 to 13 June 2026, Club Nàutic l’Escala will host the Moth Class European Championship, one of the most spectacular events on the international foiling sailing calendar. Over the course of a week, the Sea of Empúries will welcome 75 foiling boats and sailors from 17 countries and 3 continents, competing in an exceptional setting known both for its sailing conditions and its natural beauty.

Located in a strategic spot in the heart of the Costa Brava, Club Nàutic l’Escala offers optimal conditions thanks to its regular thermal wind, stable sea state and the incomparable setting of the Sea of Empúries — a space that combines heritage, nature and navigation. This privileged environment will allow the Moth Class to showcase its full potential in a regatta promising speed, spectacle and excitement.

The championship schedule includes two days of equipment checks (7 and 8 June), official training and the opening ceremony on the 8th, qualification races on the 9th and 10th, and the finals on the 11th, 12th and 13th of June, followed by the prize‑giving ceremony and closing event.

High‑performance sailing

This edition reinforces the innovative character that defines the Moth Class. These boats, known for their ability to “fly” on foils, create a unique visual spectacle and place this event among the most technologically advanced in the world of sailing.
In addition, the organisation will implement electric and automatic race marks, avoiding the need for traditional anchoring systems and minimising impact on the seabed — a step forward towards more sustainable sailing.

A Responsible Event

The Moth Class European Championship aligns with the criteria of the Clean Regattas programme by Sailors for the Sea and follows environmental management standards certified under ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
The event also incorporates an educational dimension through collaboration with IES El Pedró as part of the Esport Blau programme, promoting young people’s connection with the marine environment and sailing.

The championship logistics will involve a team of 45 professionals, operational support both on land and at sea, 12 support boats, and an outdoor area of 5,000 m² dedicated to regatta operations.
