Sustainability remains a fundamental pillar for Club Nàutic l’Escala. Our objective is clear: to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to the regeneration of the Sea of Empúries through concrete actions reinforced by the Act Responsibly programme.

In 2026, we initiated the process to renew the Blue Flag, a distinction that endorses environmental quality and responsible port management. This process requires meeting demanding criteria in safety, information, environmental education and sustainable services.

    • Renewal of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and EMAS certifications, which validate the Club’s commitment to quality and environmental management.
    • Renewal of the CETS certification, confirming our commitment to sustainable tourism in the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park.
    • Energy efficiency: replacement of lighting with LED technology in buildings and outdoor areas, reducing energy consumption and improving visibility across the port.
    • Sustainable mobility: incorporation of a 100% electric maintenance van, reducing emissions and advancing towards decarbonisation.
    • Responsible water management: installation of 20 electronic meters to monitor consumption and detect leaks in real time.
    • Selective waste collection and hazardous waste: renovation of ecological islands and containers for hazardous waste (contaminated rags and packaging).
    • Environmental monitoring and quality: cleaning of the harbour basin and improvements to grey‑water and bilge‑water suction systems.
    • Signage and information: updated signage in restrooms, communal areas and technical spaces.

This year we reinforce our commitment to environmental education with initiatives that link sport and sustainability:

    • MedFoto 2026: an international photography competition dedicated to the sea and people, raising awareness of our relationship with the marine environment. Entries open: 1 April.
    • Surfing for Science: kayak outings to collect microplastics and contribute to scientific research, in collaboration with Fundació Alive and the University of Barcelona. Starting 21 January, with weekly sessions on Wednesdays from 11:30 to 12:30.
    • Guided nautical activities: scheduled outings throughout the year, led by environmental educators and qualified instructors, interpreting the Natural Park’s environment and teaching good practices at sea.
    • Ocean Ecostructures: we maintain our BioBoosting System units, which regenerate marine ecosystems. They have already doubled biodiversity and captured more than 24 kg of CO₂. These units can be seen on the port’s pontoons, where they promote new marine life.

With all these actions, we reaffirm our commitment: caring for the sea is caring for the future.
Join us and make every navigation a responsible one.
