The MedFoto, the photography contest dedicated to the Mediterranean Sea and its relationship with the people that the Club organizes with the Alive Foundation, opens the submission period for its second edition, a period that will be open until May 15.
New edition of a photography contest that aims to invite both professional and amateur photographers to submit their images of the Mediterranean.
Photographs that, on the theme of the relationship between the sea and people, may deal with both what happens on its surface and what happens under its waters; from sports and professional nautical activities. That’s why MedFoto offers up to seven contest categories and, among them, one dedicated to images taken with mobile devices.
Contestants may submit up to 15 photographs distributed in any of the seven proposed categories: Landscape, Wildlife, Sports and Leisure, Sea Trades, Underwater, Conservation and Climate Change and With Mobile Phone.
Among all the candidates, more than 3,000 euros in cash prizes will given to the winners, in addition to four special prizes consisting of experiences in L’Escala. These will be for the best photographs taken within the geographical limits of l’Escala and the Costa Brava, the one presented by an author under 16 years of age and for the finalist image that obtains the most “Like” on the contest’s Instagram account. The popular vote to discover the winner of a sailing trip along the Costa Brava will take place between July 1 and 15.
The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will take place at the Club Nàutic l’Escala on August 5. During the event it will also be inaugurated the exhibition of the 42 finalist images, which will be available to visit in the Club’s Board Room until September 4.
MedFoto is an initiative born from the collaboration between Alive Foundation and Club Nàutic l’Escala and aims to highlight the fragile relationship between people and the sea, as well as promote the natural values of the marine environment and encourage a responsible attitude of all agents operating in the marine world and the general public. With the collection and dissemination of the visual material of the contest, the contest aims to contribute to the knowledge and preservation of the marine environment.
In this edition, the event has the support of the City Council of L’Escala, Ports de la Generalitat of Catalonia, La Ballena Alegre campsite, Portalblau Festival and Improcat.
