The 15th Mar d’Empúries Trophy officially opened the 2026 Catalan ILCA and 420 Sailing Circuit in L’Escala on the weekend of 12 and 13 September. A total of 99 sailors from across the Catalan coast took part in the event, organized by Club Nàutic l’Escala on behalf of the Catalan Sailing Federation and in collaboration with L’Escala Town Council.
Saturday’s racing began under stable weather conditions. A north-easterly wind (Gregal) proved irregular and variable, requiring patience from both the Race Committee and competitors. Eventually, conditions improved and three races were completed for the ILCA 7, ILCA 6, ILCA 4 and 420 classes.
On Sunday, the day began with more stable conditions. Sunshine accompanied the sailors from early morning, while the south-westerly Garbí breeze steadily strengthened, providing excellent sailing conditions. Three additional races were completed for all classes. Wind speeds ranged between 8 and 14 knots, allowing competitors to fully demonstrate their skills on the waters of L’Escala.

The prize-giving ceremony took place at 5:00 p.m. in the square outside the Club’s social headquarters, attended by institutional representatives, including the Mayor of L’Escala, Mr. Josep Bofill, and prominent figures from Catalan sailing.
