Day 2, two more races at the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships – L’Escala, Spain

The 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships de l’Escala continues. Today, Monday October 10, the 263 sailors of the ILCA Master class have completed two more races on their second day of competition in the Sea of Empúries, L’Escala – Spain.egona jornada de competició al Mar d’Empúries.

Once again, the weather has delayed the start of the races, this time until 2:00 p.m. Finally, they sailed the first race with seven knots, an intensity that increased to 8-10 throughout the day.

With a total of four sailed races, the Spanish Xavi Tous and Alfredo Bermúdez lead the ILCA 6 Apprentice Master fleet (30-44 years old) followed by the Italian Gianmario Broccia. In the women’s division, the three provisional places of honor are for the Italian Elisa Boschin, the Spanish Míriam Carles-Tolra and the Greek Georgia Cheimona.

The French Sebastien Baudier, the Spanish Mònica Azón and the British Ian Gregory are the first ILCA 6 Masters (45 to 54 years old). Azón leads also the women’s fleet of this division followed by the Spanish Marina Sánchez and the German Alexandra Behrens.

Among the ILCA 6 Grand Masters (55 to 64 years old), two French are at the top, Gilles Coadou and Luigi Santocanale, followed by the Belgian Pieter Van Laer, while among the women the French Helene and Isabelle Viazzo are leaders with the Swedish Ann Loren in third place.

The British Max Hunt is first of the ILCA 6 Great Grand Master (65 to 74 years old), followed by the Australian Jeff Loosemore and the Spanish Miguel Noguer. The French Isabelle Arnoux and Evelyne Ferrat are the first females in the fleet.

The Australian Peter Heywood, the American Peter Seidenberg and the Dutchman Henk Wittenberg lead the ILCA 6 Legend fleet (over 75 years).

In the ILCA 7 Apprentice Master class, the Slovenian Matej Vali, the Italian Lorenzo Cerretelli and the Canadian Ian Elliot are on the top; while the Greek Dimitrios Theodorakis, the American Peter Hurley and the Spanish Javier Echávarri are leaders in the Master division.

The Spanish José María Van der Ploeg is the first ILCA 7 Grand Master, followed by the Canadians Allan Clark and Andrew Roy. The Spanish José Luis Doreste, the British Tim Law and the American Peter Vessella are at the head of the ILCA 7 Great Grand Master.

Tomorrow they will meet again at the Club from 9 am to prepare for the third day of competition.

The Club Nàutic l’Escala organizes the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships after being selected by EurILCA (ILCA European Region) last April.

The regatta has the collaboration of the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Girona Provincial Council, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the City Council of L’Escala, as well as Ports of the Generalitat, the Catalan Sailing Federation and the Spanish Association of the ILCA Class.

It also receives logistical support from Camping La Ballena Alegre, the La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club and the Nautivela nautical service company.
