The 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships of l’Escala awards its winners!

Today, Wednesday, October 13, the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships has held its last day at the Club Nàutic l’Escala. The prize giving ceremony ended the competition officially.

The event took place in the regatta Village with the presence of the president of the Club Nàutic l’Escala Narcís Carreras, the president of EurILCA Jean-Luc Michon, the vice-president of the Catalan Sailing Federation Josep Maria Isern and Marta Rodeja, first deputy mayor and councilor for economic promotion of the City Council of L’Escala.

With the lowering of the class flag, the ILCA Master class European championship, that has brought together up to 264 sailors, ended. The conditions have allowed to complete all the planned races. Today with a wind between 8 and 10 knots, that although arriving late, given some enjoy sailing in the sea of Empúries again.

With 10 races sailed, the ILCA 6 Apprentice Master 2022 European Champion is the Spanish Alfredo Gómez Bermudo. The also Spanish Xavi Tous was finally second and the Greek Antonios Kondis, third. In the women’s category, the victory goes to the Spanish Míriam Carles-Tolra, who is accompanied on the podium by the Italian Elisa Boschin and the French Gabrielle Nagy.

The French Jean-Christophe Leydet prevails among the ILCA 6 Masters followed by the British Ian Gregory and the French Xavier Leclair. The Spanish Mònica Azón claims the women’s victory with the also Spanish Marina Sánchez Ferrer and the German Alexandra Behrens in second and third place.

The grand prize of the ILCA 6 Grand Master open fleet goes to French Gilles Coadou. The podium is completed by the Belgian Pieter Van Laer and the Irish Sean Craig, while among the girls, the French Helene and Isabelle Viazzo take the championship and the runner-up with the Swedish Ann Loren in third place.

The Australian Jeff Loosemore is the ILCA 6 Great Grand Master winner with the British Max Hunt and the Spanish Miguel Noguer in second and third position, while the French Isabelle Arnoux and Evelyne Ferrat take the prizes in the women’s division.

The winner of the ILCA 6 Legend fleet has been the Australian Peter Heywood. The American Jacques Kerrest and the British Mike Kinnear finished second and third.

Among the ILCA 7 Apprentice, Slovenian Matej Valic wins the championship; Italian Lorenzo Cerretelli is runner-up and Canadian Ian Elliot is third.

The ILCA 7 Master podium is distributed between its winner, the American Peter Hurley and the Greeks Dimitrios Theodorakis and Aristotelis Chatzistamatiou.

The Spanish José María Van der Ploeg is the ILCA 7 Grand Master winner with the Canadian Andrew Roy and the Swedish Tomas Nordqvist in second and third place.

Finally, the Spanish José Luis Doreste gets the ILCA 7 Great Grand Master gold medal. In this category, the silver goes to the British Tim Law and the bronze to the German Wolfgang Gerz.

The Club Nàutic l’Escala organizes the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships after being selected by EurILCA (ILCA European Region) last April.

The regatta has the collaboration of the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Girona Provincial Council, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the City Council of L’Escala, as well as Ports of the Generalitat, the Catalan Sailing Federation and the Spanish Association of the ILCA Class.

It also receives logistical support from Camping La Ballena Alegre, the La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club and the Nautivela nautical service company.
