There is only one week left for the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships l’Escala to start. The dinghy sailing regatta, which will be held at the Club Nàutic L’Escala between October 7 and 13 with up to 263 international registered sailors, stands out for its efforts towards sustainability.

The 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships has obtained the platinum certification, the highest offered by Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas program, which acknowledges the sustainability of the events that have taken place on the water since 2006.

Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana is a global conservation organization that acts to engage and educate sailors to preserve and restore ocean health.

With the aim of reducing the paper and plastic used, the welcome package that will be delivered to participants will be made up of reusable products such as a wooden key ring to identify their boat trolley, a waterproof bag and a t-shirt.

According to its commitment to the environment and sustainability, the Club Nàutic L’Escala has developed four lines of work to minimize the impact of the regatta on the surrounding natural environment. The Club is located right next to a protected natural area, the Montgrí Natural Park.

These lines are the correct management of waste, the responsible consumption of water, the prevention of toxins entering the water and the organization of a cleaning of the coast that will be hold next Friday, October 12. Aimed at regatta participants, it will allow them to get to know better the natural environment of the area, as well as contribute to its conservation.

To identify their boat trolley, the participants will receive a biodegradable and reusable wooden key ring, which contributes to eliminate the classic plastic stickers.

The Club Nàutic l’Escala organizes the 2022 EurILCA Master European Championships after being selected by EurILCA (ILCA European Region) last April.

The regatta has the collaboration of the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Girona Provincial Council, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the City Council of L’Escala, as well as Ports of the Generalitat, the Catalan Sailing Federation and the Spanish Association of the ILCA Class.

It also receives logistical support from Camping La Ballena Alegre, the La Ballena Alegre Sailing Club and the Nautivela nautical service company.
