The Costa Brava is home to some of the Mediterranean’s most valuable marine environments, with coves, cliffs and protected areas that support a rich diversity of species and habitats. Respectful boating helps protect marine fauna and flora, promotes harmonious coexistence among sea users and allows us to enjoy the surroundings in a more conscious and responsible way.
In the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter, one of the most important recommendations is to moderate speed in sensitive and protected areas. In fact, regulations establish that within the partial nature reserve and less than 50 metres from the shoreline, boats must navigate at a maximum speed of 3 knots.
This practice helps minimise disturbance to marine wildlife, reduce the impact of waves on the coastline and preserve the habitats that make this area one of the most unique natural environments on the Costa Brava.
Beyond complying with regulations, navigating at a moderate speed allows you to better appreciate the landscape, discover hidden corners of the coast, enjoy the area’s natural richness and experience the sea in a more peaceful way.
